Steroids are synonymous with the bodybuilding world. Today, various legal steroids are available, each with its functions. For a long time, steroids were cast negatively, mainly because of negative press from elite-level athletes using performance-enhancing drugs to gain a competitive edge over the opposition. Unfortunately, the consequence of such scandals is that people make the implicit association between cheating and steroids.
This, amongst other things, created a lot of hesitancy towards steroids. A by-product of this is the fear and anxiety some of us still have with injecting steroids. So without wasting any time, here’s a step-by-step guide to safely injecting steroids.
How Do You Safely Inject a Steroid?
Without further ado, let’s begin!
Prepare the area of the injection on your body (glutes, delts, or your quads) by wiping it with an alcohol pad or a cotton swab. According to the World Health Organization, disinfecting the injection site is one of the best practices to follow for infection control. When done disinfecting, allow the skin to dry before proceeding.
Open the package that contains the syringe, then open the box that contains the needle and screw it onto the syringe. The syringe consists of three essential parts: a barrel, a plunger, and a needle. The barrel has measurements on the side for the correct dose. Now, draw some air into the syringe by pulling the plunger back to the proper measurement for your dosage.
Stick the needle through the top of the vile container and flip the needle and vial upside down. Then start injecting air into the container by pushing the plunger down.
Drag the plunger back down, making sure the needle is under the surface of the ester. Continue drawing the ester into the barrel until it contains the correct dose. Keeping the needle under the surface of the ester decreases the chance of developing bubbles in the syringe’s barrel. If you notice any large air bubbles, you need to remove them.
You do this by pushing the plunger in again, sending the ester back into the container, and then drawing the correct amount out. Bubbles are harmless most of the time. However, they will reduce your dosage as the bubble takes up space. Please take note of this as it is a common question about giving yourself a shot.
To administer the injection:
- Hold the barrel of the syringe so that it’s pointing straight at the skin.
- Inject the needle through the skin and into the muscle beneath in one fluid movement.
- Once the needle is in, press your thumb down on the plunger and push the plunger in.
After initial injection, count to 3 to ensure that the syringe is empty, then pull the needle straight out and set it aside.
Don’t recap the needle. Instead, you could prick yourself and put the syringe into a used syringe container. If you don’t have access to one, you make your own, and if that’s not your style, here is a list on how to properly dispose of syringes and sharps. Also, as a last note, you may need a cotton ball and an adhesive bandage for bleeding.
